m1k.tech publishes independent analysis and commentary on consumer technology, semiconductors, gaming and technology policy. It carries no advertising, sponsored content or affiliate links.

Unless stated otherwise, the text and original photographs on m1k.tech are © Mikael Hilger. Short quotes with a link back to the original post are welcome; any other reproduction requires written permission.

Product names, brands and trademarks mentioned on the site belong to their owners. Their use is for identification and commentary only and doesn’t imply endorsement. Quotes from third parties are reproduced briefly, with attribution, for the purpose of commentary and analysis. Article illustrations are generated with AI for this site.

5. Liability

Content is published in good faith and checked against its sources, but technology moves quickly, and information can become outdated. Nothing on m1k.tech is financial, investment or legal advice; posts about companies, deals or markets are commentary, not recommendations.

The site links to other websites. m1k.tech does not control those sites, and their content and privacy practices are their own responsibility.

Comments require being logged in. Comments that are unlawful, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory or spam may be removed without notice.

7. Personal data

m1k.tech collects as little personal data as it can. Here is what is collected, why, and by whom.

  • Server and security logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, time), to run the site securely and block attacks and abuse. Basis: legitimate interest. Processed by OVH (hosting, France) and the site’s security plugin.
  • Audience statistics (pages visited, referrer, approximate location, device), to understand which posts are read. Basis: legitimate interest. Processed by Automattic (Jetpack Stats), without cookies on your device.
  • Newsletter (email address), to send the newsletter you subscribed to. Basis: your consent; every email includes an unsubscribe link. Processed by Automattic (Jetpack Subscriptions).
  • Comments (name, email, IP address, comment text), to publish and moderate comments. Basis: legitimate interest. WordPress processes this on the site, and Automattic processes it where Jetpack is used.
  • Likes and sharing, for the like and share buttons under posts. Processed by Automattic (Jetpack Likes).
  • Embedded content (for example, YouTube videos), which behaves as if you visited the embedding platform directly.

Transfers outside the EU. Automattic is based in the United States, as is Google when you play an embedded YouTube video. Where data is transferred there, it relies on safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (for certified providers) or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

How long data is kept. Server and security logs are kept for a limited period, normally no more than 12 months. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments are kept as long as they’re published.

What m1k.tech doesn’t do. It doesn’t sell personal data, use it for advertising, or build reader profiles.

Your rights. You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time, by emailing mike@m1k.tech. You won’t be asked for a copy of your ID unless it’s genuinely needed to confirm your identity. You can also complain to a data-protection authority, such as the CNIL in France or the authority in your country.

8. Cookies

m1k.tech uses a small number of cookies:

  • Statistics, likes and subscriptions: Automattic (Jetpack) may set cookies when you like a post, comment or subscribe.
  • Comments and login: WordPress sets cookies if you log in, or if you comment and ask the site to remember your details.

You can delete or block cookies at any time in your browser settings.
