RedLynx had no assigned projects when Ubisoft told staff on October 14 that it wanted to shut down the Finnish studio, according to GamesIndustry.biz. Up to 52 positions are affected, pending Finland’s change negotiation process, so “proposal” is the accurate word for now.
Ubisoft bought RedLynx in 2011 after Trials HD and Trials 2, and the studio’s last major release was Trials Rising in 2019. Since then, it ported The Division 2 to Stadia, worked on a mobile game, and supported Star Wars: Outlaws. I liked Trials a lot, which is why I find it hard to read this kind of closure as just a line item.
Ubisoft already cut up to 60 RedLynx jobs in October 2025 and pointed the remainder at mobile, with two unannounced titles in development. Rainbow Six mobile shut down last week, per Polygon, which doesn’t help that plan.
Singapore is the bigger headcount hit: 70 positions, at the studio that led Skull and Bones and, more recently, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft says the studio remains an important part of its global production organization and that the changes “align the studio with upcoming production needs.” I can’t tell from outside whether that means Black Flag Resynced is finished or something else is going on.
Both studios sat in the Creative Network under the company’s new Creative Houses structure, a support layer rather than houses with their own games. That is the pattern worth watching. Support studios are where a publisher cuts when it needs savings without canceling a flagship, and it echoes what happened when layoffs and the DRAM price spike started feeding each other, and again in Bungie and Xbox’s latest round. In my earlier post about Amazon walking away from MMOs, the logic was the same, just from the other direction: pull back to what already earns.
GamesIndustry.biz understands RedLynx has no sustainable standalone titles. That is probably true. It also reminds us that a studio with no project is one a publisher decided to stop funding.
